Dr. Joel Calahan (he/him) is a translator and teacher. From 2008 to 2013, he was an editor of Chicago Review.
His translations of experimental poetry and fiction from Italian and Latin have been published in journals like Circumference, Aufgabe, Cambridge Literary Review, and Lana Turner. His writing has appeared in Modern Language Quarterly and Paideuma. His chapbook of Book IV of Vergil’s Georgics, titled The Bees, was published in 2024 by Verge Books (Chicago).
Current projects include translations of narrative prose by Giorgio Manganelli and Alberto Arbasino; poetry by Giovanna Frene; and the art writings of Surrealist painter and collage artist Enrico Baj.
He sends out newsletter digests of his blog Caliber at irregular intervals.
